Parameter Description

COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) is a chemical method to measure the amount of reducing substances that need to be oxidized in a water sample. The oxygen equivalent of substances (generally organic matter that can be oxidized by strong oxidants in wastewater, wastewater treatment plant effluent and polluted water. in the study of river pollution and the nature of industrial wastewater and the operation and management of wastewater treatment plants, it is an important and quickly measured organic pollution parameter, often expressed by the symbol COD.

A high COD means that the water contains a lot of reducing substances, mainly organic pollutants. The higher the chemical oxygen demand, the more serious the organic matter pollution of the river water. The source of these organic matter pollution may be pesticides, chemicals, organic fertilizers, etc. If not treated, many organic pollutants can be adsorbed and deposited by sediment at the bottom of the river, causing persistent poisoning to aquatic organisms in the next few years.After a mass die-off of aquatic life, the ecosystem in the river is destroyed. If people eat creatures in the water they will absorb a large amount of toxins in these creatures and accumulate them in the body, These toxins often have carcinogenic, teratogenic, and mutagenic effects, and are extremely dangerous to humans, in addition, if polluted river water is used for irrigation, plants and crops will also be affected, and they are prone to poor growth, and people cannot eat these crops. However, high chemical oxygen demand does not necessarily mean that there is the aforementioned hazard. The specific judgment needs to be analyzed in detail, such as the type of organic matter, what impact it has on water quality and ecology, as well as whether it is harmful to the human body, etc. If it is not possible to carry out detailed analysis, you can also measure the chemical oxygen demand of the water sample every few days. If the value drops a lot, it means that the reducing substances contained in the water are mainly easily degradable organic substances, which are less harmful to human body and biology.

Instructions

1. Fill the tube to the line with water sample.and close the cap tightly.

2. Turn it upside down 10 times and start timing. Let it stand for 2 minutes. If the reagent is not completely dissolved, shake it a few times until it is completely dissolved.

3. Compare color and read the test result.

How to read the test?

Please follow the required reaction time to get a right measurement. After the specified time, compare the color of the tube with the color chart. The nearest color indicates the chemical oxygen demand of the sample. A color between two standard colors indicates a value between the two standard values.

Caution

1. If the water sample is colored, decolorize it until colorless (e.g., using activated carbon adsorption) before testing. For turbid samples, let settle naturally and use the clear supernatant for detection.

2. Adjust a pH<5 up to neutrality with a diluted sodium hydroxide solution.

3. Keep the test kit out of the reach of children. Store in a cool, dry and dark place. Use promptly after opening.

4. For best results read in natural daylight.

Emergency Measures

1. If the reagent or powder gets into the eyes, please immediately wash with water for more than 15 minutes. Even if there is no pain or abnormality, please receive the diagnosis of an ophthalmologist immediately.

2. Please rinse with water immediately after the reagent or powder touches the skin or clothes.

3. Do not put any items in this product into your mouth. If something enters your mouth, please wash your mouth with water immediately.

4. If abnormalities appear after taking the above measures, please seek medical attention immediately.
